Yorke powers ManU to Final.
This has got to be the year of Dwight Yorke. Amongst the leading scorers in England and in European Cup play, Yorke further silenced critics when he scored the tying goal for Manchester United in there second round European cup encounter with Juventus. Down 2-0 after just eleven minutes, Yorke tied the score in the 34th minute after some near misses earlier on.

It was left to Yorke's strike partner of Andy Cole to put away the winner in the 84th minute. United won the game 3-2 to advance to the European final on May 24th in Barcelona versus Bayern Munich. It is the first time since 1968 that Manchester United have reached the final of the European cup. The score by Yorke is his eighth goal in Europe.

T&T falls in World Rankings

Trinidad and Tobago continues it slide down the slippery slope of the Fifa world rankings. They are now ranked 72nd falling two places from last month. Jamaica is still the number one team in the Caribbean with a ranking of 39th rising one place.

Mexico (13th) still leads the pack in Concacaf followed by the USA (26th).

Hislop commits to T&T.

After making an appearance for T&T versus Jamaica, Shaka Hislop has decided to play full time for Trinidad and Tobago.

According to reports in the Trinidad Express, while in Trinidad Hislop informed team management that he will commit his future to the Trinidad and Tobago national team. Hislop is angry that the England team selectors have bypassed him several times  in the past. The highest level Hislop ever played for was the English B team last year.

Hislop will not be available for Trinidad and Tobago's game versus South Africa on May 6th in Port of Spain.

"No more T&T players for the MLS!"

The MLS paints a pretty picture of Caribbean players as happy go lucky in the USA. However, just below that surface is a great deal of unhappiness.

Last year Stern John wanted out of Columbus, but due to "contractual" obligations, found himself back in the MLS this year much to his disappointment and one German football executive with a extra, useless plane ticket at the Hasley Crawford stadium three weeks ago. John was robbed of the MLS player of the year by a league that wants to promote more hispanic patronage.

Now comes another attempt by the league to boost it's attendance by allocating Colombian international John Jairo Trellez to the Dallas Burn. Trellez has scored three goals from international 24 caps. The addition left the Burn with too many international players and that meant that they had to cut one player from the roster to make room for Trellez.

The axe fell on Mickey Trotman's head yesterday. This may be a blessing in disguise for Trotman. There are a couple of European teams that are looking at Trotman and the outright release by the league gives him an opportunity to try out with them. However, according to one source, none of his players will be playing in the MLS in the future.
